Weight Watchers has been with us for many years now and has proved to be a tremendously successful diet program that revolves around a balance of exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.

A wide range of different foods are assigned a points score and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and recipes provided by the program.

Members are also encouraged to attend counseling session in their local area for both advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle that go along with any diet plan. Members are also provided with online support as well as online points calculators and menus.

In addition, Weight Watchers have their own line of meals which you can purchase through a lot of the bigger grocery chains.

A points score is allocated to foods based upon the portion size, the calories that portion contains, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat in every serving. As a general rule, foods which are high in fat have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance then depends on things like body weight and amount of weight loss he or she wishes to achieve.

The formula used to calculate a points score is as follows:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. So, if the actual dietary figure is under 4 this figure is used, but, if the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.
