What Is The Formula For Weight Watchers Point System

International Weight Watchers has been about for a long time and has proved itself to be a hugely successful diet program that concentrates on a balance of low fat nutrition, exercise and counseling.

A wide range of different foods are assigned a points score and members then make use of a points calculator and hundreds of great recipes provided by the program.

Participants also attend counseling session in their local area to get advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle that go along with not just this but any diet program. Members are also provided with online support and online menus and calculators.

To further help participants, Weight Watchers have their own line of meals which can be purchased through many of the larger grocery chains.

A points score is allocated to foods according to the size of the portion, the calories that portion contains, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat contained in each serving. Generally, foods which are high in fat will have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber will have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance then depends upon things like his or her body weight and amount of weight loss he or she wishes to achieve.

The formula used to calculate a points score is as follows:

weight watchers formula

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. So, if the actual dietary figure is under 4 then this figure is used, but, where the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.
