International Weight Watchers has been around for many years and has proved to be a hugely successful commercial diet program which focuses on a balance of exercise, low fat nutrition and guidance.
Food items are given a points score and members then use a points calculator and recipes provided by the program. Members also attend counseling session in their local area for advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle which accompany any dieting plan. To further assist members, Weight Watchers make their own range of meals that can be purchased at many of the bigger grocery chains.
A points score is allotted to foods according to the portion size, the calories that portion contains, the quantity of fiber and the amount of fat in every serving. As a rule, foods which are high in fat have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber have a low points score. The daily allowance for dieters then depends upon such things as his or her body weight and the desired weight loss.
The formula used to calculate a points score is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams
(Note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. That means that, if the actual figure is less than 4 then this figure is used, but, where the figure is more than 4 then 4 is used.
