Weight Watchers New 365 Day Menu Cookbook:
Complete Meals for Every Day of the Year

Weight Watchers has been with us for a long time and is a very successful diet program that revolves around a balance of exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.

Food items are given a points score and Weight Watchers members make use of a points calculator and a wide range of recipes provided by the program.

Participants are also encouraged to attend counseling session in their home area for both ideas and advice and to help with the lifestyle changes that accompany any dieting plan. There is also online support as well as online menus and points calculators.

As if this were not enough, Weight Watchers make their own range of meals that can be purchased at many of the larger grocery chains.

A points score is given to a variety of foods according to the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat contained in each serving. In general, foods which are high in fat will have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber will have a low points score. The daily allowance for dieters then depends upon such things as body weight and amount of weight loss he or she wishes to achieve.

The formula for calculating a points value is:

weight watchers formula

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For instance, if the actual dietary figure is lower than 4 this figure is used, but, where the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.

Below you will find some examples of the points values given to particular foods:
