International Weight Watchers has been with us for a long time now and is an incredibly successful diet program that centers on a balance of low fat nutrition, exercise and counseling.

As if this were not enough, Weight Watchers have their own range of meals which can be purchased through a number of the larger grocery chains.

A points value is allotted to a variety of foods according to the portion size, the calories that portion contains, the quantity of fiber and the amount of fat contained in every serving. Normally, foods which are high in fat will have a high points value and high fiber foods will have a low points value. The daily allowance for dieters then depends on such things as his or her body weight and the desired weight loss.

The formula used to calculate a points score is as follows:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. That means that, if the actual figure is lower than 4 then this figure is used, but, where the figure is greater than 4 then 4 is used.
