International Weight Watchers has been around for many years now and has proved to be a tremendously successful diet program which focuses on balancing exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.

A wide range of different foods are assigned a points score and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and hundreds of great recipes that are provided by the program.

Participants also attend counseling session in their local area for ideas and advice and to assist with the lifestyle changes which go along with not just this but any diet program. Members are also provided with online support and online menus and calculators.

To further help participants, Weight Watchers have their own line of meals which you can get through many of the larger grocery chains.

A points score is given to various foods based upon the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat contained in every serving. Generally, high fat foods have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance is then dependent on such things as body weight and the desired weight loss.

The formula for calculating a points value is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. Accordingly, if the actual figure is less than 4 then this figure is used, however, where the figure is greater than 4 then 4 is used.
