250 Prizewinning Family Recipes

Weight Watchers has been with us for many years now and is a fabulously successful commercial diet program which revolves around a balance of low fat nutrition, exercise and guidance.

Food items are allotted a points value and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and hundreds of easy to follow recipes that are provided by the program.

Members also attend local counseling sessions for advice and ideas and to assist with the lifestyle changes which accompany any dieting program. There is also online support together with online points calculators and menus.

As if this were not enough, Weight Watchers produce their own line of meals which you can get through a number of the bigger grocery chains.

A points value is allotted to various foods according to the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat contained in every serving. Generally speaking, high fat foods have a high points value and high fiber foods have a low points value. A dieter's daily allowance then depends upon things like his or her body weight and the desired weight loss.

The formula for calculating a points value is:

weight watchers formula

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. In other words, if the actual dietary figure is under 4 this figure is used, but, if the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.

Below are just some examples of the points values given to certain foods:
