International Weight Watchers has been about for many years and has proved itself to be an incredibly successful diet program that focuses on balancing low fat nutrition, exercise and guidance.

Food is allotted a points score and members then use a points calculator and a wide range of recipes that are provided by the program.

Participants are also encouraged to attend counseling session in their local area for ideas and advice and to assist with the changes in lifestyle that accompany not just this but any dieting program. There is also online support and online calculators and menus.

As if this were not enough, Weight Watchers produce their own line of meals that you can buy at a number of the larger grocery chains.

A points score is allotted to a variety of foods based upon the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat in every serving. In general, high fat foods have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance is then dependent on things like body weight and target weight.

The formula for calculating a points value is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. In other words, if the actual dietary figure is less than 4 this figure is used, however, if the figure is more than 4 then 4 is used.
