Weight Watchers has been around for a long time and has proved itself to be a very successful diet program which centers on a balance of exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.

A wide range of different foods are assigned a points value and members then use a points calculator and recipes that are provided by the program.

Members also attend counseling sessions locally for both ideas and advice and to assist with the lifestyle changes which go along with not just this but any dieting plan. Members also have access to online support together with online menus and calculators.

Additionally, Weight Watchers have their own range of meals that you can purchase at a lot of the bigger grocery chains.

A points value is allotted to foods based upon the portion size, the calories that portion contains, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat in each serving. Generally, foods which are high in fat have a high points value and high fiber foods have a low points value. A dieter's daily allowance is then dependent upon things like body weight and amount of weight loss he or she wishes to achieve.

The formula used to calculate a points score is as follows:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. In other words, if the actual dietary figure is less than 4 this figure is used, however, if the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.
