International Weight Watchers has been with us for many years and has proved itself to be a tremendously successful diet program that focuses on balancing exercise, low fat nutrition and guidance.

Different foods are allotted a points value and members then use a points calculator and hundreds of easy to follow recipes which are provided by the program.

Participants are also encouraged to attend counseling session in their local area to get both advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle that go along with any dieting program. Members also have access to online support together with online calculators and menus.

To further help participants, Weight Watchers produce their own line of meals which may be purchased through a lot of the larger grocery chains.

A points value is given to a variety of foods according to the portion size, the calories that portion contains, the quantity of fiber and the quantity of fat contained in each serving. In general, foods which are high in fat will have a high points value and high fiber foods will have a low points value. The daily allowance for dieters is then dependent on such things as his or her body weight and the desired weight loss.

The formula for calculating a points value is as follows:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: in the term (min{r, 4}) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. So, if the actual dietary figure is lower than 4 then this figure is used, but, where the figure is more than 4 then 4 is used.
