Weight Watchers Versatile Vegetarian

International Weight Watchers has been around for a long time and has proved to be a hugely successful diet program that focuses on balancing low fat nutrition, exercise and counseling.

Items of food are assigned a points value and members make use of a points calculator and simple to follow recipes that are provided by the program.

Participants are also encouraged to attend counseling session in their local area to get both ideas and advice and to help with the lifestyle changes that accompany not just this but any dieting plan. Members are also provided with online support together with online points calculators and menus.

To further help participants, Weight Watchers produce their own line of meals that can be purchased through a lot of the bigger grocery chains.

A points value is given to various foods based upon the portion size, the calories that portion contains, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat in every serving. In general, high fat foods have a high points value and high fiber foods have a low points value. A dieter's daily allowance then depends upon such things as body weight and how much weight he or she wants to lose.

The formula used to calculate a points score is as follows:

weight watchers formula

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. In other words, if the actual dietary figure is under 4 this figure is used, however, if the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.

Here you will find a few examples of the points assigned to particular foods:
