Food items are assigned a points value and Weight Watchers members then make use of a points calculator and hundreds of great recipes that are provided by the program. Participants are also encouraged to attend local counseling sessions for ideas and advice and to help with the changes in lifestyle which go along with any dieting plan. There is also online support and online menus and points calculators. To further help participants, Weight Watchers produce their own range of meals which can be bought through a number of the larger grocery chains. A points value is given to foods according to the size of the portion, the number of calories, the quantity of fiber and the amount of fat contained in each serving. In general, foods which are high in fat will have a high points value and foods which are high in fiber will have a low points value. In other words, if the actual figure is lower than 4 then this figure is used, but, if the figure is greater than 4 then 4 is used.
