International Weight Watchers has been around for many years and is a fabulously successful diet program that focuses on balancing exercise, low fat nutrition and guidance.

Different foods are assigned a points score and Weight Watchers members make use of a points calculator and hundreds of great recipes provided by the program.

Members also attend counseling sessions locally to get both ideas and advice and to assist with the lifestyle changes that go along with any dieting plan. There is also online support together with online calculators and menus.

Additionally, Weight Watchers make their own range of meals which can be purchased at many of the bigger grocery chains.

A points score is allotted to a variety of foods based upon the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat contained in each serving. Normally, high fat foods will have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber will have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance then depends upon such things as body weight and the desired weight loss.

The points formula is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. Accordingly, if the actual figure is less than 4 this figure is used, but, where the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.
