Weight Watchers has been around for a long time now and has proved itself to be a fabulously successful diet program that centers on a balance of low fat nutrition, exercise and guidance.

Food is given a points value and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and simple to follow recipes which are provided by the program.

Participants are also encouraged to attend counseling session in their local area for ideas and advice and to help with the changes in lifestyle that go along with not just this but any diet plan. Members also have access to online support as well as online menus and calculators.

To further assist members, Weight Watchers make their own line of meals that you can purchase at many of the larger grocery chains.

A points value is allotted to foods according to the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat contained in every serving. In general, high fat foods have a high points value and high fiber foods have a low points value. The daily allowance for dieters is then dependent upon things like body weight and target weight.

The points formula is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For instance, if the actual figure is under 4 this figure is used, but, where the figure is more than 4 then 4 is used.
