Items of food are given a points value and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and hundreds of easy to follow recipes that are provided by the program. Members also attend local counseling sessions for both ideas and advice and to help with the lifestyle changes which go along with any dieting plan. Members also have access to online support as well as online calculators and menus. As if this were not enough, Weight Watchers have their own range of meals which you can get through many of the larger grocery chains. A points value is given to foods according to the size of the portion, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat in each serving. Normally, foods which are high in fat have a high points value and high fiber foods have a low points value. The daily allowance for dieters is then dependent upon things like his or her body weight and how much weight he or she wants to lose. The points formula is:
Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams (Please note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. That means that, if the actual dietary figure is lower than 4 then this figure is used, but, if the figure is more than 4 then 4 is used.
