Items of food are given a points score and members then use a points calculator and hundreds of easy to follow recipes that are provided by the program. Participants are also encouraged to attend counseling sessions locally to get ideas and advice and to assist with the lifestyle changes that go along with any diet program. Members also have access to online support and online menus and calculators. As well, Weight Watchers produce their own range of meals which you can purchase through a lot of the bigger grocery chains. A points score is allocated to a variety of foods according to the portion size, the calories that portion contains, the quantity of fiber and the quantity of fat in each serving. As a general rule, high fat foods have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber have a low points score. The daily allowance for dieters is then dependent on things like body weight and target weight. The points formula is:
Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams (Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For example, if the actual figure is lower than 4 this figure is used, but, if the figure is greater than 4 then 4 is used.
