International Weight Watchers has been with us for a long time now and is a tremendously successful commercial diet program that concentrates on balancing low fat nutrition, exercise and guidance.

A wide range of different foods are allotted a points score and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and recipes that are provided by the program.

Members also attend counseling sessions locally to get both advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle that accompany any dieting plan. Members also have access to online support and online calculators and menus.

To further help participants, Weight Watchers produce their own range of meals which you can buy at many of the larger grocery chains.

A points score is allocated to various foods based upon the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat contained in every serving. In general, high fat foods have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance is then dependent upon things like body weight and target weight.

The formula for calculating a points value is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. In other words, if the actual figure is lower than 4 this figure is used, however, where the figure is greater than 4 then 4 is used.
