International Weight Watchers has been about for many years now and is an incredibly successful diet program that concentrates on balancing exercise, low fat nutrition and guidance.

Food items are assigned a points value and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and simple to follow recipes which are provided by the program.

A points value is allocated to foods according to the size of the portion, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat contained in every serving. In general, high fat foods have a high points value and foods which are high in fiber have a low points value. A dieter's daily allowance is then dependent upon such things as body weight and how much weight he or she wants to lose.

The formula used to calculate a points score is as follows:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For instance, if the actual figure is under 4 this figure is used, however, if the figure is greater than 4 then 4 is used.
