Weight Watchers Family Power:
5 Simple Rules for a Healthy-Weight Home

International Weight Watchers has been around for many years now and has proved to be a hugely successful commercial diet program that revolves around a balance of exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.

Different foods are assigned a points value and Weight Watchers members make use of a points calculator and hundreds of easy to follow recipes that are provided by the program.

Members also attend counseling session in their local area to get ideas and advice and to assist with the lifestyle changes that accompany not just this but any dieting program. Members also have access to online support as well as online points calculators and menus.

Additionally, Weight Watchers make their own line of meals which you can buy at a lot of the larger grocery chains.

A points value is allotted to foods according to the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat in each serving. In general, high fat foods have a high points value and high fiber foods have a low points value. A dieter's daily allowance is then dependent upon things like body weight and the desired weight loss.

The formula for calculating a points value is as follows:

weight watchers formula

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: in the term (min{r, 4}) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For instance, if the actual figure is under 4 then this figure is used, but, where the figure is greater than 4 then 4 is used.

Below are a few examples of the points values given to particular foods:
