International Weight Watchers has been around for many years and is a fabulously successful commercial diet program which revolves around balancing exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.

A wide range of different foods are given a points score and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and recipes which are provided by the program.

Participants are also encouraged to attend local counseling sessions to get both advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle which go along with any dieting program. Members are also provided with online support together with online points calculators and menus.

As well, Weight Watchers produce their own range of meals which may be purchased through many of the larger grocery chains.

A points score is allotted to a variety of foods according to the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat in each serving. Usually, foods which are high in fat have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance then depends upon things like his or her body weight and how much weight he or she wants to lose.

The formula for calculating a points value is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For instance, if the actual figure is less than 4 this figure is used, but, where the figure is greater than 4 then 4 is used.
