Weight Watchers Family Power:
5 Simple Rules for a Healthy-Weight Home

International Weight Watchers has been around for a long time now and has proved itself to be an incredibly successful diet program which focuses on a balance of low fat nutrition, exercise and counseling.

A wide range of different foods are allotted a points value and Weight Watchers members use a points calculator and a wide range of recipes which are provided by the program.

Members also attend local counseling sessions to get advice and ideas and to help with the changes in lifestyle which go along with any dieting plan. Members also have access to online support as well as online points calculators and menus.

To further assist members, Weight Watchers have their own range of meals which can be bought at a number of the larger grocery chains.

A points value is given to foods according to the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat contained in every serving. In general, high fat foods have a high points value and foods which are high in fiber have a low points value. The daily allowance for dieters then depends on things like his or her body weight and amount of weight loss he or she wishes to achieve.

The formula for calculating a points value is:

weight watchers formula

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For instance, if the actual dietary figure is under 4 then this figure is used, but, if the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.

Here you can see some examples of the points scores given to certain foods:
