Weight Watchers has been about for a long time and has proved itself to be a tremendously successful diet program that centers on a balance of low fat nutrition, exercise and counseling.

Food is allotted a points value and Weight Watchers members use a points calculator and a wide range of recipes that are provided by the program.

Participants also attend local counseling sessions to get both advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle that go along with any diet plan. Members are also provided with online support together with online calculators and menus.

As if this were not enough, Weight Watchers produce their own range of meals that you can get through a number of the larger grocery chains.

A points value is allocated to foods according to the size of the portion, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the quantity of fat contained in every serving. As a rule, high fat foods will have a high points value and foods which are high in fiber will have a low points value. A dieter's daily allowance is then dependent upon things like body weight and amount of weight loss he or she wishes to achieve.

The formula used to calculate a points score is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For instance, if the actual dietary figure is lower than 4 then this figure is used, but, if the figure is more than 4 then 4 is used.
