International Weight Watchers has been with us for many years now and has proved itself to be a tremendously successful diet program which focuses on balancing exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.

Food items are assigned a points score and Weight Watchers members use a points calculator and hundreds of great recipes provided by the program.

Members also attend counseling session in their home area to get advice and ideas and to assist with the lifestyle changes which accompany not just this but any dieting program. Members also have access to online support and online points calculators and menus.

Additionally, Weight Watchers produce their own range of meals which you can get at many of the larger grocery chains.

A points score is given to foods according to the portion size, the number of calories, the amount of fiber and the amount of fat contained in each serving. As a general rule, foods which are high in fat will have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber will have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance then depends on things like his or her body weight and amount of weight loss he or she wishes to achieve.

The formula for calculating a points value is as follows:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For example, if the actual figure is lower than 4 then this figure is used, however, where the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.
