International Weight Watchers has been around for a long time now and has proved to be a hugely successful diet program which concentrates on balancing exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.

Different foods are allotted a points value and members use a points calculator and a wide range of recipes provided by the program.

Members also attend counseling session in their local area to get both advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle which accompany any dieting plan. Members are also provided with online support as well as online menus and points calculators.

As if this were not enough, Weight Watchers make their own range of meals which you can buy through many of the bigger grocery chains.

A points value is given to a variety of foods based upon the size of the portion, the calories that portion contains, the quantity of fiber and the quantity of fat contained in every serving. As a general rule, foods which are high in fat will have a high points value and foods which are high in fiber will have a low points value. The daily allowance for dieters is then dependent upon things like his or her body weight and amount of weight loss he or she wishes to achieve.

The formula used to calculate a points score is:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Please note: in the term (min{r, 4}) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. In other words, if the actual dietary figure is under 4 then this figure is used, however, where the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.
