Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook
dottie's weight watchers points. Weight Watchers has been around for a very long time now and is a hugely successful commercial diet program that focuses on a balance of exercise, low fat nutrition and counseling.
|
Food is allotted a points value and members use a points "calculator" and recipes provided by the program.
Members are further encouraged to drop in on local counseling sessions for advice and ideas and to assist with the lifestyle changes which are part of any diet program. Online support is also available, along with online calculators, menus and recipes.
Additionally, Weight Watchers produce their own line of meals which can be bought in many larger grocery stores.
A points value is assigned to foods based upon the number of calories, the amount of fiber, the quantity of fat and the size of the portion in each serving. In general, foods that are high in fat have a high points value and foods that are high in fiber have a low points value. The daily allowance for members then depends upon things like body weight and the desired weight loss.
The points formula is as follows:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams
(Note: in the term (minr, 4) a maximum of 4 grams of fiber is used in the calculation. This means that, if the actual dietary figure is less than 4 this is used, but, if the figure is bigger than 4 then 4 is used.
Here are some examples of the points given to particular foods:
