International Weight Watchers has been with us for many years now and has proved itself to be a tremendously successful commercial diet program which focuses on balancing low fat nutrition, exercise and guidance.

Food is allotted a points score and Weight Watchers members then use a points calculator and a wide range of recipes which are provided by the program.

Members are also encouraged to attend local counseling sessions to get advice and ideas and to assist with the changes in lifestyle which go along with any diet plan. Members are also provided with online support and online calculators and menus.

Additionally, Weight Watchers produce their own line of meals which can be purchased at a lot of the bigger grocery chains.

A points score is given to various foods according to the portion size, the number of calories, the quantity of fiber and the amount of fat contained in each serving. Generally speaking, high fat foods will have a high points score and foods which are high in fiber will have a low points score. A dieter's daily allowance is then dependent on things like his or her body weight and target weight.

The points formula is as follows:

Where: p = Points | c = Calories | f = Fat Grams | r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: when considering the term (min{r, 4}) no more than 4 grams of fiber are used in the calculation. For instance, if the actual figure is lower than 4 this figure is used, however, if the figure is over 4 then 4 is used.
